Macro-TSH in Covid-19 Patients with an Underlying Thyroid Condition: A Case Series and Literature Review

Introduction: The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) that began in Wuhan (China), spread rapidly worldwide, seriously affecting the population leading to a public health emergency declared by World Health Organization. It is unknown how SARS-CoV-2 infection can affect thyroid function. In this study, we describe characteristics of an unusual analytical interference may explain false detection hypothyroidism patients with infection. This first time phenomenon nature has been described COVID-19 and underlying dysfunction. Material Methods: Observational study admitted for severe disease. Results: TSH levels presented atypical pattern different from Euthyroid Sick (ESS), confirmed lack response substitution treatment. We develop studies confirm or eliminate potential interferences, being diagnosed possible macro-TSH.
